Match 16 Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians

DC vs MI, Match 16, IPL 2023
Axar Patel, David Warner and two contrasting fifties

The left-hander has played an absolute blinder! A 24-ball 54 with four fours and five sixes that involved absolutely smashing Hritik Shoukeen, Cameron Green and Jason Behrendorff. He helped revive DC after a middle stutter, but he has fallen now in the 19th over. David Warner, who scored another fifty but again in an underwhelming manner, has also departed. He's gone for 51 off 47.

DC bundled out for 172

Delhi Capitals lost five wickets in the space of 10 balls at the death as Axar's exit gave MI a chance to claw their way back after allowing the home side to dictate terms for a bit. In the end, DC went from 165 for 5 to 172 all out, with Piyush Chawla and Jason Behrendorff picking three wickets each while Rilee Meredith got two.

A lull, a storm, a double-wicket over

Rohit Sharma and Tilak Varma were going strong after Kishan's exit but then came a sudden lull that cranked up the asking rate. Axar, Lalit and Mustafizur bowled three overs where they conceded 4,5 and 2 runs to give DC hopes of a late comeback. Then came the storm in the form of Tilak Varma's six-hitting against Mukesh Kumar - as he carted two sixes and then fell. Suryakumar Yadav then hit one straight to fine leg to fall for a first-ball duck.

Mustafizur then took out Rohit Sharma in the following over to put the pressure squarely on Mumbai Indians.

Final-ball win for Mumbai Indians

Another day, another thriller in the IPL! Anrich Nortje came excrutiatingly close to defending five runs in the final over as he executed yorkers at will, but Tim David and Cameron Green did just about enough and ran hard on the last ball to secure a thrilling six-wicket victory in the national capital. With that MI are off the mark, while DC's winless streak is now up to four games.

Conclusions:
You look at the last three IPL games we have witnessed, they have been amazing. Wrong end of it today, but the guys were fantastic. Rohit played a fantastic knock at the top of the order. Nortje is world-class and that's what we expect from him, Mustafiz too. Timmy David was on the wrong side of it, so I tried to keep it at stump-height. I think from the last three games, we've some positives but we shouldn't lost wickets in clumps. Axar should bat in the top four the way he is striking the ball. From the last three games we have played, there are a lot of positives
